Calla Lillies (Zantedeschia)

CALLA LILLIES:

Family: Araceae

Common name: calla lily

Origin: South Africa

The leaves of zantedeschia, better known as calla, are evenly green or speckled and spear-shaped. The flowers are funnel-shaped with a spadix.


Flower color: white, pink, rust, yellow and various colors.

Flowering period: July - October

Average plant height: 12 - 36 inches (30 - 90 cm)

Planting depth to base of bulbs: 4 inches (10 cm)

Spacing between bulbs: 16 inches (40 cm)

Type of bulb: rhizome

Light requirements: full sun, but partly shade is fine too (to 25%)

Hardiness & USDA Zones: Tender III: zones 2 - 7 primary use in containers; zone 8 primary use in containers or hardy with a mulch; zones 9 - 11 hardy

Landscape uses: border, beds, perennial garden, but very suitable for containers too.
